Dr. Travis Light, the owner of Strive Sports Medicine PT, has a passion for helping athletes recover, and getting them back to playing quickly and safely.

Dr. Light is board certified in sports physical therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). He is currently the only Physical Therapist both in the Salisbury area and on the entirety of Maryland’s eastern shore who holds this distinction.

Board Certified Sports clinical specialists provide specialized care to athletes, helping prevent injuries, manage conditions, and enhance athletic performance, often working alongside sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, and other professionals.

Dr. Light was first inspired to become a physical therapist after attending PT after his mother had knee surgery. He recalls having excellent conversations with her PT, relating to organized sports and hockey. The PT discussed his profession with Dr. Light which ultimately inspired him to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Now, Dr. Light has experience working with the area’s high school and college athletes while practicing in an orthopedic PT clinic. He incorporates the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatment methods in his multifaceted approach to treating the modern athlete. Not only that, but he’s the only physical therapist in the Salisbury area that is certified by the State of Maryland to practice dry needling.

Dr. Light earned his BS in Health Sciences and Doctor of Physical Therapy Degrees at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. He’s a former NCAA athlete, ice hockey player, and multi-distance triathlete.

In his free time, Dr. Light likes to spend time relaxing with friends, traveling, and attending games at Salisbury University.

Becoming a Sports Clinical Specialist involves meeting rigorous requirements, including years of clinical experience, thousands of hours of direct patient care in the sports setting, and completion of specific continuing education courses. Candidates must then pass a comprehensive board examination, demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing and treating sports-related injuries, and adhere to professional and ethical standards.

SafeSport Trained

The US Center for SafeSport is an independent nonprofit organization that aims to prevent all forms of abuse in sport, including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. SafeSport training is a program offered by the Center that provides education to athletes, coaches, and volunteers on how to recognize and respond to different forms of abuse. Dr. Travis Light, a professional in the field of sports medicine, has completed SafeSport training, which is beneficial for athletes and their families because it ensures that he is equipped to recognize and respond appropriately to any potential abuse situations. By being SafeSport trained, Dr. Light demonstrates a commitment to creating a safe and healthy environment for athletes, which is essential for their physical and emotional well-being. SafeSport training is reviewed and renewed annually.
